I adore meeting my clients for coffee or tea, because I love hearing about their love story, what they are passionate about, and their vision for the wedding day.
After getting to know them better and explaining important aspects of wedding photography I always ask them if they have any questions for me. Typically they don’t and I think it is because the majority of people might not see the hidden value in it having questions ready.
Here are 5 Reasons You NEED to ask a Photographer Questions:
1. It Creates a Relationship
The more comfortable you are with your photographer the more comfortable you will feel in front of the camera, and the better you will look in your photos.
BOOM. I could stop there because that is reason enough.
But I will keep going because there is even more!
2. It Establishes Expertise
Nowadays there is no shortage of people running around with great cameras. But just because someone has a pretty Instagram feed, doesn’t mean they know what they are doing or that they are a right fit for you.
Asking your potential photographer questions will help you to decipher if they know their craft and have your best interest at heart.
3. It Must be Done Face to Face
Yes, I know you have a million things on your plate. Yes, I know it is so much easier just to email them. But this is a MUST. Why? Because you need to make sure you and your photographer actually get along.
How are you suppose to feel comfortable with someone taking your photos if you don’t actually like them? Make time to meet them at a fun coffee shop or even just over Skype.
4. It puts you on the Same Page
Photographers have their own unique way of shooting and they prioritize certain shots that they feel are most important. But there might be things that are really important to you that aren’t in their normal routine.
For Example: If you really love your family and friends and absolutely want candid photos of them at your wedding during the ceremony and cocktail hour, ask your photographer about it!
If they don’t already include candids of guests, they can now make a point to do that! This will help you to not be disappointed in a great gallery of photos because you didn’t ask!
5. The Secret to Asking Questions
In light of all of this, you should be prepared! Sit down before you meet your photographer, and think about the things that are most important to you. And then write them down! You might not remember all those great questions you thought up on your morning run once you get to your coffee date in the afternoon!
Are you Engaged? I’d love to tell your story!
