Our Story: Ships Passing in the Night | Orange County Wedding Photographer

One of the biggest things I love about being a wedding photographer is the stories. Each couple has one. I love meeting with newly engaged couples for the first time and listening to the “long version” over coffee. I love all of the little details and like what they were thinking, who made the first move, and all that good stuff. I seriously cannot get enough of it. Often at the end of these coffee dates, my couple’s will ask, “what about you?”. So I decided it was time to share the story of how Kyle and I fell in love. All the way from “hello” to “I do”.

  1. Ships Passing in the Night
  2. First impressions
  3. Hi, I’m your boss now
  4. Is this going to be awkward?
  5. Tinkerbell and Peter Pan
  6. The Infamous Movie night
  7. Feelings revealed
  8. Our First Date
  9. Oceans Apart
  10. Making it official
  11. Big Sur and a Big Adventure
  12. The Accidental I love you
  13. Dating wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows
  14. The Proposal Part 1

Late night taco bell runs. Ping Pong in the lobby. Ultimate frisbee three times a week. It was freshman year of college. I was alive with possibilities, involved in way too many things, and took my camera with me everywhere. I was studying fine art and still experimenting with my hair color. I lived on the second floor of one of the newer dorms in south campus. Kyle lived on the second floor too but on the south side. He had long curly hair with a feather in it, was studying math, and running cross country.

He lived in room 245. Paired with two guys who would be his best friends, be in our wedding, and his closest friends to this date. Scott and Karl. From day one of orientation, I knew who Scott was, except he wasn’t Scott but teal shirt guy. A friend had a crush on him and pointed him out to me. I met Karl not too long after because he’s Karl. The friendliest guy on the planet, a yes man, and basically a gold retriever in human form. Everyone knew him.

You would expect that I would have then met Kyle soon after meeting his two roommates and best friends. But I didn’t.

Karl and Scott weren’t in my immediate circle of friends that year but we spent a decent amount of time together. At dorm events. In the Caf. In class. Learning to swing dancing. Taco Bell runs. Communal Bike Rides. Chilling in the lobby. But no Kyle.

We didn’t meet until almost two years later.
