One of the biggest things I love about being a wedding photographer is the stories. Each couple has one. And I love meeting with newly engaged couples for the first time and listening to the “long version” over coffee. I love all of the little details and like what they were thinking, who made the first move, and all that good stuff. I seriously cannot get enough of it. Often at the end of these coffee dates, my couple’s will ask, “what about you?”. So I decided it was time to share the story of how Kyle and I fell in love too. All the way from “hello” to “I do”.

Not only did Kyle and I not meet freshman year but I don’t even remember seeing him around. I have one vague impression of a curly haired guy sitting with our friend Scott and other cross country dudes in the Caf. I remember noticing the feather in poking out of back those curly locks and thinking that was interesting. But that’s it!
Kyle (the one with the good memory) remembers me as the petite girl that was always with a bunch of dudes. (thank you intramural sports for the stunning first impression with my future husband…)
Two years flash by in the blink of an eye.
It is the very end of Sophomore year and I was sitting in the almost empty Student Union Building with my friend Weston. He had written a couple songs that he was going to perform for a talent show and asked me to harmonize. We needed to choose between two songs and were having a hard time. Cue Kyle.
He was passing through the building and Weston stopped him. He knew Kyle liked music and asked if he would help us decide between the two songs. After quickly introducing us, Weston began to play. Normally, I get pretty nervous when I sing. However, I wasn’t nervous at all because I didn’t know how musically inclined Kyle was and I didn’t really about what he thought of me because I had a boyfriend.
He told us which song he liked and went on his merry way. Not thinking anything of meeting me either because he was also dating someone.
Right before the winning game! Can you find me? I’m the tiny one in the middle.
Can you spot him? Hint: Shaved Head
