One of the biggest things I love about being a wedding photographer is the stories. Each couple has one. And I love meeting with newly engaged couples for the first time and listening to the “long version” over coffee. I love all of the little details and like what they were thinking, who made the first move, and all that good stuff. I seriously cannot get enough of it. Often at the end of these coffee dates, my couple’s will ask, “what about you?”. So I decided it was time to share the story of how Kyle and I fell in love too. All the way from “hello” to “I do”.
The semester was off to a great start. My classes were great. My team leaders were doing great. And we were about to head up the mountain for a retreat with all of the leaders. I loved these retreats, the cabin with a view of the lake, and the all the fun activities we had planned. Kyle had ended the relationship he was in during the first couple weeks of the semester and nothing had changed for almost a month. But during the cabin retreat, something was different.
It was subtle but I noticed that Kyle was just paying attention to me more. Whenever I’d be talking in a group he’d be listening. When I’d make a joke he would hear it and be laughing. It was so small but I knew something was up. I knew he liked me.
And I thought, oh no. Not that it wasn’t flattering and he’s a nice guy and all but, I’m his boss and in charge of training for something really important! I hoped his feelings wouldn’t make thing weird. I went and told my boss (who was a fellow student and now dear friend) about my suspicions. She told me not to worry and to just keep good boundaries.
I made sure to not give him the wrong impression and never gave him any special attention. But as we continued to spend time together in and out of training things began to change.
Both photos were taken at the retreat mentioned above! Also, can we talk about that mohawk?!
