One of the biggest things I love about being a wedding photographer is the stories. Each couple has one. And I love meeting with newly engaged couples for the first time and listening to the “long version” over coffee. I love all of the little details and like what they were thinking, who made the first move, and all that good stuff. I seriously cannot get enough of it. Often at the end of these coffee dates, my couple’s will ask, “what about you?”. So I decided it was time to share the story of how Kyle and I fell in love too. All the way from “hello” to “I do”.
Since everyone that was a part of SMU spent so much time together, fast friendships formed and a wonderful community began. And we spend as much time together in training as outside of it. Weekly movie nights. Meals in the Caf. Studying over coffee. And even dressing up as a group for Halloween. We decided to be Neverland characters, we had a captain hook, tiger lily, Indians and pirates, and even some lost boys.
Kyle was Peter Pan. And I was Tinkerbell. Which is NOT a couple’s costume… Wendy was the love interest, remember?! Tink was the friend.
But that didn’t stop people from making comments. Maybe it was the fact that I helped Kyle make his costume. Or maybe it was that they could see the feelings I was still denying. Maybe they could see how good we were together.
I knew I had a lot of fun with Kyle. I mean he was awesome! How could you not love spending time with him? But nothing could happen because I was still his “boss”. That would be totally inappropriate…. right?
Even though I had sworn off dating. Even though I was trying my best to just be his friend. All those comments got me thinking. What if?
Some of our group on the Halloween mention above!
