Our Story: Making it Official

One of the biggest things I love about being a wedding photographer is the stories. Each couple has one. And I love meeting with newly engaged couples for the first time and listening to the “long version” over coffee. I love all of the little details and like what they were thinking, who made the first move, and all that good stuff. I seriously cannot get enough of it. Often at the end of these coffee dates, my couple’s will ask, “what about you?”. So I decided it was time to share the story of how Kyle and I fell in love too. All the way from “hello” to “I do”.

  2. Hi, I’m your boss now
  3. Is this going to be awkward?
  4. Tinkerbell and Peter Pan
  5. The Infamous Movie night
  6. Feelings revealed
  7. Our First Date
  8. Oceans Apart
  9. Making it official
  10. Big Sur and a Big Adventure
  11. The Accidental I love you
  12. Dating wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows
  13. The Proposal Part 1

I was sitting at a Starbucks in the airport reading a book. Or I should say “trying” to read. My eyes were passing over the words and moving down the page but my thoughts were elsewhere. Kyle would be getting off the plane any minute now. He has been in India for almost three weeks and we had had no direct contact with one another. Would it be awkward? Would things still feel the same? Would we embrace or keep it casual? I mean we weren’t even officially dating. As I was “reading”, I heard a familiar voice say, “Oh Hey”. Kyle had materialized in front of me! I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I didn’t even notice him walking up to me.

We hugged. And it wasn’t awkward. We drove home and were talking about the trip all the while. That night he asked me to be his girlfriend. We also decided to go on an impulsive camping trip the next day to celebrate. All the way to Big Sur. It would be an adventure we said. It was January and we were terribly underprepared. It was an adventure but in a different way than we thought. Bright and early we packed the car and made the six-hour drive up the coast. No reservations. No food. We would just take care of all of that when we got up there. I drove most of the way and Kyle talked and napped. It was blissful.
