Our Story: Dating wasn’t all Sunshine and Rainbows

Mar 4, 2019

One of the biggest things I love about being a wedding photographer is the stories. Each couple has one. And I love meeting with newly engaged couples for the first time and listening to the “long version” over coffee. I love all of the little details and like what they were thinking, who made the first move, and all that good stuff. I seriously cannot get enough of it. Often at the end of these coffee dates, my couple’s will ask, “what about you?”. So I decided it was time to share the story of how Kyle and I fell in love too. All the way from “hello” to “I do”.

As you read in last week’s post, Kyle and I fell in love pretty early on into our relationship. But this didn’t mean everything was sunshine and roses. We had lots of great times together while dating and I could probably write 10 more posts just about that. But these series is already long enough as is, and I want to give an honest portrayal of our time together. It was good but overall it was pretty difficult. We both were maturing as humans and wrestling with difficult things. I was going through counseling to process abuse from my childhood. And together we uncovered struggles kyle was working through.

We never let the other person settle into mediocrity or give up but tried to always in gentleness in love point out where we needed to grow and point one another back to Jesus. In the last post, I talked about how we “knew” we were right for each other and that’s true but there were times where I was unsure if it was going to work out.

But we stuck it out and worked hard on our relationship. And after about two years of dating and six months after we had graduated college, Kyle popped the question and completely surprised me. Well, almost.
